Teaching Philosophy

The significance of education is not only to pass on knowledge, but also to impart the ability to acquire knowledge and shape a person's characteristics, just as the old Chinese saying that giving people fish is better than teaching them to fish.

“Australia needs business, industry and community leaders who understand the nature of design and technology; who will foster and promote innovation and the creative use of technologies; and who appreciate how design and technological activity contribute to the lives of individuals and to cultures and environments.”  (NESA, 2019)

As a TAS teacher candidate, I frequently address the critical value of high-order thinking and ICT skills. The responsibility of the teacher is to impart certain knowledge and construct the background knowledge of the students at the beginning. Each student will have a different starting degree for the background knowledge in related fields. Thus, a teacher's work is more inclined to improve the students' learning results according to the students' cognitive stage at this point. Linking real life and industry is an effective way to deepen students' understanding of basic knowledge, which can effectively connect the newly acquired knowledge with their own background knowledge. After the initial enlightenment, learning should be transformed from teacher-centred to student-centred, so that students can play a freer role in order to improve their thinking ability to solve problems. The teacher will become a supervisor, to design the most suitable custom program for each student according to his or her own situation.

In addition, from my personal aspect, teachers not only impart knowledge and promote the improvement of students' ability, but also have another meaning. In my cultural background, teachers also need to play a role as a model of behaviour and morality. Australian schools are a microcosm of a diverse society. Differences in culture, beliefs, and orientations can lead to different attitudes and even prejudice and rejection of others. As a rational adult, teachers should set aside their personal opinions and be more accepting of each student within the school. They should demonstrate to their students the values of a harmonious society through their own actions.

教育哲学

教育的意义不仅仅是传承知识,而更在于传授获得知识的能力以及塑造一个人的品格。中国有句古话,授人以鱼不如授人以渔,便是这个意思。

 

教师的职责在初期是传授信息以构架学生的背景知识。每个学生对于相关领域的背景知识会有不一样的起始程度。因此在这个阶段,教师的工作更偏向于根据学生的认知程度同步提升学生的学习成果。联系现实生活和行业是一个很有效的加深学生对于基础知识理解的途径,可以有效地将新获得的知识和他们自身的背景知识联系起来。在初步的启蒙之后,学习应该从以教师为中心转变为以学生为中心,让学生有更自由地发挥空间,以提升他们解决问题的思考能力。而教师将成为一个指导者,根据每个学生的自身情况为学生设计最适合他们的定制方案。

 

另外,在我的认知领域中,教师除了传授知识和促进学生能力提升之外,还有另一层意义。在我的文化背景中,教师还需要做到一个行为和道德模范的作用,即“为人师表”。澳大利亚的学校是多元化社会的一个缩影。 文化、信仰、以及取向的不同会导致学生对于他人的态度不同,甚至存在偏见和排斥。教师作为一个理性的成年人,应该在学校内放下自己的个人见解,用更包容的心去面对每一个学生。用自己的行动向学生证明和谐社会的价值观。
